Cannot adequately convey how ecstatic my 2 old dyke NYC household is to see this! Can hardly wait for the first podcast. Congrats and many, many thanks to Julie Bindel, Kathleen Stock, and whoever else is helping out with this endeavor, for all your good, hard, and smart work.

I want to let you know, too, that I've already been able to draw upon your paper "Lesbian Erasure in the UK" in putting together material to send to my New York State rep commenting on a piece of school legislation he has put forward, setting forth, among other things, my concerns about the definition of "lesbian" ("woman" is not defined in the legislation--I'm sure you can see the problems, below):

"The term "lesbian" means a woman or female individual whose enduring physical, romantic, or emotional attraction is to another woman or female individual."

I cited specifically to your paper--credit where credit is due, of course--and am very pleased to now be able to back that up by signing on as a founding subscriber. My comment with him is pending and, while I'm not holding my breath, your paper helped me enormously to make the best possible case I could.

Thank you, Julie and Kathleen, for setting this podcast up. Much needed. Such a good way to encourage discussion, share thoughts and, hopefully, have a few laughs along the way.

Sent too early !

Cont’d … also … a question for you both ( not really a dilezza)re FILIA in October ( I heard about the FILIA conference first 2years ago from Julie’s writing btw ) I am going to Brighton. I am expecting the trans rights activists to be worse than usual( well worse than in Glasgow) because I anticipate that Brighton is the UK epicentre of trans rights and the trans-rights activists/men’s rights activists are going to be worse than usual.

I do not like to feel cowed by these bullies and cowards going in to the venue. I am thinking of making a more pointed (in-your-face) entrance with a friend ( if I can persuade her) me wearing a litttle boogie-board and a sign stating ‘ Surf and Terf’ and my friend with a toy Smurf and a sign saying ‘ Smurf and terf’ .

Now, Julie, I know you have form with wearing inflammatory slogans… and came off badly , as you recalled in your book from combat 18 blokes….. do you think this is going to be too much? ( I mean I am not directly inciting violence, as…. arguably you were at that time) . If not, then, perhaps you and Kathleen can suggest how we should enter the conference with bravura and humour. …Because I HATE giving in to this witch-hunting by these thuggish men.

Anyway, as ever, please prioritise the real dilezzas. Mine is just wanting to tap into your good ideas on this matter.

I love what you are both doing and I think it is so important.

Thank you both.

Wishing you both joyful and jolly ‘ lezzering’ (I love it when you say after discursive chat r’Right , now , back to some more… lezzering’- fabulous!

I think you have done so much to reclaim, and celebrate the word lesbian in creative and flourishing conversation.

Sending you both thanks, affection and admiration

Dear Julie and Kathleen- Thank you for the podcast. Now that I have worked out how to realise my ‘premium’ access , I have been binge-listening. I liked hearing your interviews with Harriet W and sue Bewley in particular. I have learned so much from you both-the Lavender Menace, ‘packing’ (who knew?), ‘stone butch’ to name a few.

Also, I READ JULIE’s NEW BOOK! I enjoyed it so much that I devoured it in a day last weekend. Thank you Julie! I found it exuberant, scintillating, funny, fascinating and warm. I think you make the case so powerfully for a common cause for lesbians and feminists more generally. I loved your STORIES-knew you had sued Pink News, but did not know the details ; the invasion of the Ideal Home exhibition ; the chants on the lesbian protest marches to the policemen of ‘ 2,4,6,8 is your missus really STRAIGHT?’ That latter one has been making me smile all week.

Anyway, in short-thank you for a really entertaining, persuasive, passionate read. I am going to press it warmly into the hands of my lesbian friends and tell them to do themselves a favour and read it and spread the love. Am going to recommend it our EDI book group too-we are a group of 7 women and a man who meet once a month to discuss a book. We have been going for 2 and a half years now we are now firm friends.

Thank you both for the amplification of the Sapphic traffic, and the excellent chat. Personally I LIKE the food tips by the way, and (to respond to some sarky comment on the chat), ANYONE with an intellect as impressive as you, Kathleen, can say ‘ Umm’ as many times as she damn well likes. I am going to have another go at ‘Material Girls’. Now that I have realised you are/were a professor of philosophy, I feel a little better about struggling with it first time around.

I think Julie, you have done a podcast with the (also stellar) Suzanne Moore, whose writing I also adore. I think her piece entitled ‘ what fuckery is this( to quote Amy Winehouse) ‘ is SUCH an excellent piece. I would love you to share bits of that piece on the podcast if you think it wd be an entertaining.

Thrilled to support The Lesbian Project! Our smart, funny, fierce lesbian dynamic duo in the United States is Bari Weiss and Nellie Bowles, journalist refugees from the ideologically captured New York Times who, by god, married each other and founded The Free Press, our equivalent to UnHerd. Like UnHerd, though, Free Press coverage is much broader than the gender-critical sapphic traffic I badly need and appreciate in these crazy times. Thanks, Kathleen and Julie, for your important work and this intelligent and funny podcast; it's a lifeline that extends to many of us well beyond the UK.
