What a hoot of an episode. And Julie I used to have mafia nights where I would cook all my Nonna's recipes, the sauce, aubergine parmigiana, rosemary chicken and we'd watch Goodfellas! As for the panto wish King Ratty a merry mischievous Christmas from the Fairy Goddess Mother. And a resounding yes to the Lesbian Project panto 😂😂😂 Merry Christmas to all lesbian's around the world and big thanks and Yule wishes to you both for creating this delightful listen each week. 🧑🎄🌲🥂🎁🎉
As a young lesbian I would say finding a partner and having to be on the apps is definitely a reason why I am too scared to talk about these issues publicly. It seems that all the nonsense comes up even when I seek to avoid it. For example, someone I dated this year suddenly started telling me she's "sort of agender" and I had to pretend like I thought it meant something. Even a date from an extremely homophobic country was using the q-word about herself instead of lesbian, and another date was proudly saying how she goes to "FLINTA" events or something. I have gone to some "lesbian" events that are of course labelled in some "inclusive" way, and they do still have mostly lesbians (and bi women)there, but there still are men there too and you have to pretend to go along with all of it. And it does make me uncomfortable.
But I have no idea are all the young lesbians genuinely on the gender and queer train, do they not understand the issue or do they just pretend to believe all the bs, so they don't get ostracised. But I still have hope that I'll find someone who understands this issue!
Meanwhile I am glad I can support your work and hopefully get the courage to speak up at some point! Listening to your podcast is always the highlight of my Friday!
I feel the same. I deleted the dating apps because I got tired of it, there has to be a better way. (This is my way of saying the lesbian project needs to run a singles evening! or do what Blocked and Reported used to do and run personal ads, haha)
I am glad you are tuned in here and supporting The Lesbian Project. May that day of courage to also speak up come soon!
I just listened to a Free Press (United States) interview with Kemi Badenoch, now leader of the Tories, and she recounted a dinner she had with JD Vance, V.P elect of the United States. She is 44; he is 40, and she recalled their shared acknowledgment that their generation is now being called to leadership. You may be considerably younger, but eventually, older generations can no longer stay in the fight. My generation, which fought for gay rights in the '80s and '90s, is aging out. Younger people of principle and courage are needed to take their turn in the arena.
I’m a young lesbian and I feel exactly the same! When I go on a date with a woman, I have to try and figure out if she’s a TERF/sex realist or not without actually asking. Because if she’s not c if she believes in gender identity ideology, then she may well contact my employer and I would absolutely lose my job and become unemployable in my sector.
It’s so depressing. The best thing for me has been joining LGB Alliance Australia and similar, secret lesbian groups!
Very sorry to hear that even your job is on the line! I am glad organisations like LGB Alliance exist. I haven't managed to join any groups yet myself, as I have lived in three different European countries during the past years. But I am hoping once I get more settled somewhere I will join something like that!
However I can’t agree that anti-Scottish sentiment comes close to the anti-(?southern) Englishness I’ve observed everywhere in Scotland (and elsewhere in the UK). Indeed, it is my Inversneckie-accented other half who has been sent in to ‘do the talking’ for groups of friends/colleagues - in all areas of the UK where it is possible (a certain type of) English accent will be met with antagonism; including when trying to order a fish finger sarnie in Betws-y-Coed!
And surely Julie would be a shoo-in for Fairy Godmother…
Such a delight to watch three smart, brave lesbians who have publicly, at great cost, walked through the gender ideology fires here laughing with and enjoying great conversation with each other. I listened to Joanna's powerful lesbian visibility week speech at the time, and just listened again. Such conviction and courage. I'm so proud -- in this online space if not among real-world former allies, who remain safely silent -- to be aligned with lesbians who have the moral fiber and strength of character to stand for what's right.
Really loved the laughter (as usual!) in this episode - along with Kathleen's eye rolling, Julie biting her lip before she gets stuck in, and Joanna looking completely at ease, like she enjoyed every minute. Quote of the week: "What we need is a blonde" ...
Just re-watched Joanna's HoC speech and as others have said, I'm delighted Jo, and in awe, that you were able to stand there and make those points on behalf of so many of us. Thank you. And for not wearing orange!
Great episode! I'd definitely enjoy a lesbian panto. I've always thought that Buttons should be the hero(ine) of Cinderella rather than Prince Charming and I love it when my granddaughter says I have a 'Buttons kind of haircut'.
Just read on nation.cymru that rather than have a woman with 'gender critical beliefs' attend the organisers of a pride event cancelled the whole thing.
It's basically a play with lots of slapstick humour for kids and risque double entendres for the adults. It grew out of Commedia del'arte and takes the form of classic fairy tales like Cinderella, Mother Goose, Dick Whittington, Aladdin. There is a principal boy, the leading male, which used to be played always by a woman, and a principal girl, the female lead, played also by a woman. The Dame is a female character always played by a man in drag and is high camp and wears outrageous outfits and wigs. Panto season is in winter around Christmas and every town or city usually has one running. Audience participation is encourage by shouting out stock phrases like "It's/he's/she's behind you!" and "Oh no it isn't!" which results in an "Oh yes it is!" exchange with the actors. See here:

Joanna Cherry, 10/10 guest - if we’re scoring.
Hard to believe we’ll see another MP speak up as powerfully for us as Joanna did during Lesbian Visibility Week this year - thank you! (https://youtu.be/LKofrKcV5Wk?si=XzrK5AMhE8OlCHCY ).

Thank you all for another great 'cast! You make my week(end)!

Wtf how dare Marie Claire represent Julie as a TRA? “Support our sisters and not just our cisters” 🥴😒😒😒😡

Absolutely ridiculous
Yes please a lesbian panto from The Lesbian Project!
As an Aussie… what is a pantomime??

I seem to not be receiving notifications any longer so don’t know if you could look at that.
