I feel for Kate Perry as her lesbian career is clearly over. From I kissed to I scissored a girl the progression works well. But does she know the next step would be moving in together? I'm not sure that would be a hit.
She's been controversial for suggesting a lesbian relationship between a Theriesenstadt guard and a woman prison.
She is the chairwoman of the academic advisory board of Společnost pro queer paměť ("Society for Queer Memory")
She is controversial because she is trying to uncover the LGB dimension of the Holocaust.
I'd like to provide more information but I'm still struggling from PTSD from my own very personal researches in to my family and their communty's experience of the Holocaust
Brava Kathleen for attempting War and Peace again. My advice is to listen to it when you’re in audiobook mode and then pick up and read from where you left off rather than listening to a different book while reading. It’s long, but that’s how I finally managed and so worth it. Definitely the Constance Garnett translation, which was brilliantly done.
There are some wonderful chocolates that have chilies of different types in them. Lavender chocolate is delicious. Of course this is all dark chocolate so it’s good for our heart.
In case you were curious, 401k is said "four-O-one k," it's the reference to the United States Code for an employer-sponsored retirement plan. It's usually used when people are talking about cushy retirements, because it's retirement savings in addition to any pensions.
Really enjoyed the Muncie talk. The opener had me in stitches :-)
Fois gras ice cream sounds disgusting! As the daughter of an Italian ice cream maker, (yes I grew up in an ice cream factory 🍦) meat products in any ice cream is an abomination. And I'm with you Julie - vanilla is best!! And I reckon Monty Bojangles give Hotel Chocolat a run for their money 😋😋😋
Can I be the last person to tell you that Kate Bush not only dressed as Joan of Arc (in 1980, for Melody Maker), she later wrote a song about her? Fiona Apple has also been at the chainmail in the dressing-up box. Keep buggering on!
Here is an article for you from The Advertiser newspaper in South Australia (Sept 21):
“A new anti-conversion bill in SA which will outlaw conversion practices has been welcomed by Australia’s Asexuals who say they are subjected to brutal coercive practices and discrimination”.
Persevere with War and Peace, Kathleen, you won't regret it. I liked it better than Anna Karenina and as much as Middlemarch. I'm wondering which translation you're reading. It took me weeks of research to decide on a translation. In the end I did not choose P and V, (chose the revised Maude translation instead), but I think the amazing story-telling and Tolstoy's remarkable psychological acuity shine through no matter the translation.
I am a week behind as I have been ill so only just catching up with this week's podcast. Another great one, thanks both! Especially nice to hear Julie mention Bernice Reubens. I only discovered her when I read A Five-Year Sentence a few years ago, and have devoured anything I could find by her since. She really is a fabulous author! Edited to add scissoring with Ruby made me spit my coffee out!!

I'd like to draw people's attention to Anna Hájková and her book The Last Ghetto: An Everyday History of Theresienstadt (2020)

Love your film reviews! Please keep them coming!
Thanks for the heads up on Deadloch! Excellent.

More proof that Julie is not a real lesbian ✂️🥄😂
Always love these podcasts! You’re both funny, wise, and despite what gets thrown at you, never unkind. Was Marion Janner the chocolatiere?
By the way, I have a Lilian Mohin story for another time!

Thanks for the Indiana shout-out this week (I think?!). 😂

I shouldn’t find this funny but I can’t help it.

Too bad about Kathleen’s part of the Pod Cast.
There’s also the story of Lilly Wust — https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilly_Wust — which was made into a film called Aimée un Jaguar.
