Many Biblical scholars believe the fruit that the snake tempted Eve to share with Adam was a pomegranate, not an apple. This makes much more sense given that the pomegranate has been a symbol of the vulva in Middle Eastern cultures for at least 5000 yrs.
That gospel choir still exists, but with a different leader. It's *very* queen and anti-TERF now, with people going along with 'kill all TERFs' badges and tees while preaching acceptance. They would absolutely hate to know Kathleen was once a member, which fills me with joy.
Deadloch is such a delight! I must rewatch soon. A bit of Aussie context: one of the writers, Kate McCartney, is engaged to Sally Rugg- who was a HUGE part of the YES campaign for the legalisation of same sex marriage in Aus. Given your food passions I also highly recommend a youtube series by the Kates; 'The Katering Show', which riffs on Masterchef the same way Deadloch riffs on cop shows.
The Katering Show was wonderful. So many tiny gorgeous funny bits, and that explains the lingering on the labelled jars of herbs in that first episode of Deadloch. Then the Kates did a sort of TV Morning Show that was good fun.
I agree with Julie. Warm figs plucked from a tree and eaten while floating in a very lovely Cypriot swimming pool is bliss.
Deadloch passed me by, as do most Prime shows, because I spend all my bloody time searching, not watching. That’s my weekend viewing sorted. Thank you.
Hi, Italian here. Allow me a contribution to the crucial lesbian theme of vagina and fruits.
Firstly, I confirm that the figs you buy in the UK have nothing to do with those just picked from the tree in Italy - Julie, I am with you. However, and secondly, think again about the shape in front of you when you cut one in half, and how you eat it. In Italy, it's an obvious association. So much so that the word for 'vagina' (and by extension for 'beautiful woman' [sic]) in colloquial Italian is 'figa' or 'fica' which derives directly from the Latin word for 'fig' 'ficus'.
And something cool in Italian is a 'figata'. Isn't that cool? ;)
Being a new subscriber to this podcast I have revisited past episodes. I am a bit of an avid walker and found the content of all previous episodes enlightening, interesting and very funny. In fact I have received some very strange looks by passers by on occasions as I cannot contain my laughter at the dialogue between you two.
However it pains me to say … I am now up to date. I have listened to every episode enjoyed all tremendously, I have agreed with Kathleen sometimes and then agreed with Julie on others. It is so refreshing to have a whole podcast dedicated to Lezzering and to have such differing viewpoints on some things. It makes me relook at some of what I thought were unchangeable beliefs (from my part). That discussion and discourse is very hard to find in this current climate. Thank you thank you thank you.
Favourite moment thus far, Martina and the Tess Tickle joke OUTSTANDING MARTINA 😂
‘Bantz’ and being ignored as a woman and especially as a lesbian in many workplaces are real things. Very destructive things. Ask me about it sometime. Speaking as someone who has had a ‘real’ job.
I think 'bonkers' is a bit harsh, sisters, if you don't mind my saying so. Although, Julie did soften it by the addition of 'bonkers, but brilliant'. Kate Millett's 'Sexual Politics' came out in 1970, in the same year as Germaine's 'Female Eunuch'. It's hard to describe the effect of those two books on my nineteen year old life. They rocked my world and nothing was ever the same. I saw everything differently and it's because of them that I became a feminist. There have been many others who have inspired me and enriched my life, including you two. Kate and Germaine were the first and I'll always love them for that.
BTW, I also loved Kate's 'Flying', and 'The Loony Bin Trip ', and'The Prostitution Papers'. Although I haven't read that since 1971!
I loved the scene in Deadloch where the couple are in therapy and the therapist asks 'what is the favourite thing you do together?' and Kath says 'hiking' and Dulcie says 'fucking'.
Ah never mind, I am sure whoever it is will be great. I shall wait with bated breath. I am planning to binge-watch Deadloch this afternoon, you did a great job of selling it!
I looked at the author of the academic article of the week. He's an Assistant Professor at the University of Guelph, Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition. I wonder what he's telling his students? I feel sorry for him, but also for them.
I have yet to watch Deadloch, but just finished S2 of VIGIL and could that be the wokest series to have come out of the BBC?? Wow it's something else. The lesbian couple at the centre of the story are nothing short of saints. And of the three candidates for the Bad Guy of the show (the Saudi-like regime; armed rebels against it; Brits in the region selling weapons), well, you can guess who it is.

Very queer, not queen. Flippin' autocorrect

great suggestion, thank you!
Thanks for the recommendation of The Katering Show. Just watched some earlier and loved it! Now planning to binge-watch Deadloch

Oh I had that Divinyls song on my Absolute Music tape as a kid and let my Barbies perform it.
1:10 - "skim the genders off the top", I love it!

Thank you so much, this is lovely to hear

Oh, another BTW, Out Lesbian, 44 year old Emma Wiggs stormed to a Paralympics Gold Medal, in the Canoe race. Left everyone else in her wake.

Please tell me the might-be special guest next week is the 'seckshual' woman!
Unfortunately Kathleen got her dates wrong and there is no special guest next week! Stay tuned however (but not the seckshual woman)

Julie Andrew’s says it like that too
Pomegranate smashing. Big heavy wooden rolling pin on a big heavy oak chopping board. Job done!

If you love Deadloch, you may also like Fisk. It not Lezzary but Australian, same humour and hilarious
