Like Julie (and Sonia Sodha 'friend of the BBC'), I want the BBC to be the world class media organisation it can be. We need a strong public service broadcaster, otherwise it's all commercially driven agendas and rich men's outlets. Just imagine the intrusive product placements, ghastly 'fashion' items and relentless pop-up advert banners if they got their hands on Celebrity Traitors!!

And re: chinks of light indicating change is afoot, I'd like to flag up this piece about Mary Earps from BBC News a few days ago: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c620lyx5p17o

No mention of LGBT+ (except as a tag at the end). Nor queer. The headline accurately refers to 'same-sex relationship' and the word lesbian is used in the article. Reading this felt like we're finally seeing some of the nonsense roll back.

In the main the BBC still does a great job. Similar to the NHS the BBC has an impossible task, makes mistakes and is in need of changing/improving but these are not reasons to dismantle it. God help us if we have to depend on our news from social media and newspapers that are all driving their own agendas.

Just on the theme of dykes on tv, has anyone else noticed the sudden eruption of dykes on American shows? I am thinking series 2&3 of The Morning Show which has Julianna Margulies as a dyke having an on/off relationship with Reese Witherspoon and The Beast in Me with Clare Danes as a recently divorced dyke. In both cases their dykeness is not really an issue - which is refreshing. I would be interested and entertained by your thoughts on this phenomenon.

Didn't Sally Wainwright write Last Tango in Halifax? With the sort of secondary story line being Caroline (Sarah Lancashire) falling in love with Kate (Nina Sosanya). It was a wonderful story and Caroline and Kate / Sarah and Nine were just perfect as the lesbian lovers.
